Babylon A.D. We've all done it at some point. We've all paid to see a Vin Diesel movie thinking its going to entertain us. No matter how many "Chronicles Of Riddick" or "Oh My God I Can't Believe How Fastly Furious This Movie Is!!!" he makes we still cast our minds back to "Pitch Black" and think there's potential there. Or maybe we cling to the hope that despite Diesel resembling a gruff voiced, charisma-free potato perched atop a bag of muscles, that doesn't necessarily mean the surrounding movie will be bad. Things are looking hopeful for the first hour, which is very watchable, and keeps you on your toes regarding what exactly the movie is trying to be. Is it a classy Blade Runner-esque prediction of a dystopian future complete with social commentary? Or is it just an action blockbuster that happens to be set in a dingy future? It's not smart enough for the former and there's not enough action for it to be the latter so you'll no doubt be intrigued about where the movie plans to go in its final act. That guessing game comes to a startlingly abrupt end two thirds in when it becomes clear exactly what "Babylon A.D." really is. Its neither of the things you thought it might be, its actually a festering turd of a movie, so badly conceived you could genuinely believe that halfway through production they thought "f**k it" and just ground what they had so far into a paste and hoped it would stick. So badly conceived that if they'd just finished that first hour with Vin Diesel slapping on some laser-skis and jumping over a big robo shark with the words "The End!" tattooed on his bare arse, it would be a much better, and much less ridiculous film. Why exactly there's no plot whatsoever until the final reel is never clear. It's possibly so they can dazzle us with surprises on the home straight. The only thing surprising though is how quickly the movie s**ts the bed and undoes any good will it might have generated. It's a very silly story, told with stunning incompetence, and its incredible that a studio has thrown what seems to be a size-able amount of money at this shambles of a movie. It can't even be recommended for the action, which is put together with the mentality that if you shake the camera enough and use lightening fast cuts it'll be amazing! No, its unintelligible, and leads to maximum speed but minimum excitement. So if you buy a ticket for this you're in for a dreadful waste of your time. For the sake of gleaning something positive from this debacle though, let's pretend the "A.D." stands for "AVOID DIESEL" and never make this mistake again. fb724614254 Sep 5, 2008

Babylon A.D. Most people know that Vin Diesel and I have a lil relationship going on so its hard for me not to like a movie with him in it. Babylon A.D. i am a big vin diesel fan but i found this to be soulless, it was a half-baked attempt at science fiction entertainment. it was definitely lacking something, it seemed incomplete, the plot danced around too many unimportant ideals. the end left me with a lot of unanswered questions...michelle yeoh's a very talented woman and she was not portrayed to her full potential. fb672065346 Sep 5, 2008

Traitor A TV spot I saw boasted a critic 's review saying it was, "this year's Bourne Ultimatum." It's not. It's not anything close. It does have a good story, but the dialogue, at times, is too cheesy for the characters and the story is a mixture of previous box office hits (the Bourne movies, The Departed). I did, however, love Cheadle and Pearce in this and the fact that they stuck with the Islam theme throughout was different. Vin Diesel has not had a good movie since The Pacifier. I can't wait for the next Fast and Furious to come out next summer. Babylon A.D. Echoes of Johnny Mnemonic go through my brain as I watched this, not that its as bad as that but its abit to close for comfort. I still dont really know what happened haha the plot is very very well hidden and the film is really mixed up. The film doesnt know what it want sto be, there's the action of a sci-fi blockbuster in there and the usual standard martial arts affair but you can see the serious epic style wanting to come through too, shame they got Diesel in it. The rest of the cast is weak really, Thierry is actually really annoying as the virgin child, I wanted her to get killed, and the rest dont really do anything. Some nice touches like a Blade Runner style NY city and quite decent if unsure why needed snow chase but thats about it, the cgi on offer was pretty poor too. phubbs1 Sep 5, 2008

Babylon A.D. Whilst the movie concerned itself with travelling from Mongolia to America it kind of felt like it was going somewhere. Then when they hit america they added in a whole raft of character & story arcs in the last 20-30mins. Makes no real sense. Babylon A.D. (Spoilers Beware) Babylon A.D. was an incredible movie over all. The action was great, the characters remained in character, and the subtle comedy was awesome. Vin Diesel does an amazing job acting and doing stunts as always. The negatives? The dialogue was not complicated at all, in the sense that, there were no big words and no emphasis needed by any of the actors, As much as I love Vin Diesel, these lines could have been read by anyone and been good. Sometimes during the middle, this fast paced movie still appeared fast paced on screen but seemed to last centuries in the theatere, the plot was finally reveiled. Sorta. I'm not exactly sure if I missed something, but somewhere I lost track o what was going on. They threw in a religous deal which was a little unexpected. They didn't really follow up with the mom and dad thing. I don't think that her "mom" needed to be shot and killed, but I was ok with it. After Vin Diesel's character was revived and he saved the girl, I thought that would be a perfect ending! It left room for a sequel. And then the sequel option was destroyed when the girl died from god only knows what and he ends up with her twins, A black and a white child.I don't really understand the meaning to this. I wonder if there was something to look for, but I was so phazed by the sudden turns in the story that I must have missed what ever clues were there, if any. I would watch it again, but i'd reccomend waiting to rent. Babylon A.D. What should be a dark depressing sci-fi movie, becomes a cliched, standard go to point A to Z movie which borrows from Serenity and the Fifth Element which are both better films. Vin Diesel has his badly timed one-liners especially after the creators tried to up the drama near the end. Characters you don't care about and it feels like a rushed first parter for a franchise as it is based on a comic book. Not all storylines are resolved so get ready for an abrupt ending. Traitor The acting is good, the plot is pretty predictable in most parts. The film thinks its overly smart and tries hard to be neutral in dealing with its sensitive subject matter. I guess it does okay. It implements some teachings of Islam which is good. But I found the film getting some parts wrong. I'm not going to get into them, but if your familiar with the teachings of Islam you should be able to spot them. I also felt Don Cheadle's character in the movie would have been dead a long time ago if it were trying to be so realistic. The whole girl subplot was pretty lame. Also another thing I didn't like was the 'terrorists' they picked for the bombing mission. They were the most normal looking people u could possibly find. The film pretty much profiles every type of Muslim out there. You have one normal university student, one guy who works at an Arab cafe, one guy who could easily pass off as a hick and one successful looking black guy. The film makes it look like anybody could be a terrorist.. You would also notice that the other big terrorists are quite fashionable. Come on.. Your really not making it easier for the rest of us.. It just looks like ur justifying ur 'random' selection at the airports. Overall, all prejudices aside, I would say the film is a pretty mediocre action thriller, which is a little cut above the rest, cos it shows both sides of the fight against terrorism. The two main leads, Don Cheadle and Guy Pearce make it quite watchable. The film does a good job at using plenty of different locations. It gives the film a Bourne Identity feeling. College Everyone is bashing this movie but im going to do the opposite. First of all, i AM glad i didnt pay for it, but it was decent. I was a little bored in the beginning but it picked up. I was just happy that the "R" rated teen comedies were coming back and it was a good start off. Dont go see this movie if your expecting a "good" movie. Traitor Certainly a little film, not on the scale of "Bourne Identity" or other films of that ilk. "Traitor" is, actually, a pretty entertaining cat-and-mouse type thriller that boasts some good performances from the actors and a solid story that'll keep you guessing until the conclusion. The only thing is that it's kinda forgettable. I saw this movie a few days ago, and I really can't remember (or maybe I don't care to remember) anything that makes this film particularly better than others.Except maybe Guy Pearce as the lead FBI agent; he was pretty much fantastic, and it reminded me of why I love "Memento" so much.
